Thought of the Day

Two Wolves

One evening an elder Indian Chief told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, 'My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all .'

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.'

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: 'Which wolf wins?'

The elder chief simply replied, 'The one you feed.'

Nature at Work

We watched a falcon strangle a pigeon this afternoon down at OOB - the falcon was just sitting on top of the pigeon with it's claws wrapped around its neck and body.

I hear the Easter Bunny !!

It is the end of the week and I am debating whether to go into school today or not. We had over a foot of snow yesterday and unfortunately my interview was rescheduled to next week. The R&D scientist called me from home - she was up north and it was still snowing and she had just lost power. We lost power about 4am and we all woke from the clicking of all the electronic products. I like how 2-4" turned into over a foot :/

My interview at the veterinary hospital this past Wednesday went well. I liked the place and the doctor, but he said he would give me a call mid-week coming up. So we will see . . . keep your fingers crossed !!

The Part of You That No One Sees

You are compassionate, caring, and soothing.
You like other people to depend on you...
In fact, you don't feel right unless you are helping someone out.

Underneath it all, you feel the burden of everyone's problems.
Without your guidance, you fear that many people's worlds would fall apart.
You like to feel in charge, even if it brings you a lot of stress.

Death & Departure

I have felt like a Dr. Kevorkian the past few shifts at work. There was even a surgery on Saturday with a nice festering bite wound that needed debriding and laceration repair. Mmmmmm I love slicing flesh. Overall not too shabby a weekend.

I had a horrible dream last night that I was putting Cuddles to sleep while I was working a shift. I remember holding him in my arms, having him die and then bagging him up. I woke up in tears this morning around 4am. Ugh :(

I leave for Orlando on Thursday and have lots to do beforehand. While I am out of the house all day today, I have lots of little errands to run. Tomorrow will be a nice restful day with lots of laundry to get done though, since I need to be ready to roll Wednesday morning rather than Thursday as originally planned. My mother wanted to know if I would be all packed and have my luggage down by the front door the night before. I laughed and reminded her that I was not five.

Our last dinner with Keith and Kate before they leave for California on Wednesday night :(

On a funny note, I chased Kiwi into the kitchen last night and her original plan was most likely to continue running into the girls' bedroom, but it was cut short by their presence at the door . . . so she applied the brakes a few feet into the kitchen and slid on her claws a good 15 feet over the floor. It was sooooo funny.

2006 Darwin Awards

Here are this year's Darwin Awards - the annual honor given to the person who improved the "gene pool" the most by killing themselves in the most extraordinarily stupid way. As always, competition this year has been keen.

And the candidates this year are... )

Do your best to keep things honest and straightforward. It's important that everyone knows where you stand and how you want to proceed in order for you to reach your goals. An explanation is all it will take. 4 stars

So I so hear a voice say excuse me in the shower this morning, I did actually respond with a "yes" and poked my head out of the curtain and NO ONE was there. Yeah, my mother was awake in bed and she wanted to know who I was talking to . . . .

Bring on the Rain

So there must have been a cold spell in early September that is causing more pregancies by the day. That and there really is something in the water. Sandra is pregnant now - 9 weeks thus far. That brings my numbers up to seven at the moment. Just one more to go!!

Turkey day was interesting - my grandmother ate only 2 sticks of butter and my aunt peed on the bathroom floor. Nana also filled her giant purse with more than 16oz of Lindt chocolates before she left as well. Um, my highlight of turkey day was when she asked in front of everyone if I had received my birthday card - I replied that I must have missed the card, but I did get the check she had sent along with my aunt's christmas invitation. You should have seen her face !! She loves to play the sweet and wonderful grandmother in front of everyone, when in fact she is just a douche !!

Moving on, work was quiet this weekend. Got shitfaced with my mother on Saturday night, she had to drive home. Had a great time with the hot guys to my left since one of them had the big blackberry phone and his buddy and I gave him shit for making up for something else that must be small. I experienced the room spinning after too many drinks on an empty stomach. It was fun though. Watched the first half of the Pats game, stupid meeting the other half where they not only started 10 minutes late, but you could hear the cheers and groans of the men downstairs as we went over the same old shit for the 20th time. Saturday is going to be a very long day.

Christmas cards are just about all done, just a few more I thought of in the car driving up this morning. I stopped at Panera to get an drink and was very impressed with the metro guy who decorated the cover so elegantly. But the best part was the toaster erupting into flames when a bagel caught on fire while I was in line.

The funny thing to leave you with was one of Jay Leno's headlines last night that had me roaring - it was from a local gym's work-out class schedule that read "Cardio Dick Boxing!"

Cannot wait til March

Let's see . . .

1) I had to break into my house this afternoon since I left my keys on my bureau. Someone saw my ass going through the window and called the police. Not five minutes in the house was there a strenuous knock on my door with the city's finest. They took my ID and checked the place to see if things were ok. Eh, they were hot and had handcuffs.
2) My giraffe came in !!
3) I have tickets to see Josh Groban in March !! Mucho excitito !!
4) There is something in the water up here in Maine . . . someone else is pregnant . . . but ssssssssshhhh til viability is confirmed.

An Egret in the Backyard

There was another bomb threat last night on campus. Stupid bastards. It was not that bad as I on my way out the door, but the boys next door lost a few experiments that they were in the middle of. This makes two in the past week and takes it up to over 5 for this semester alone. Irritating!!

I saw the best bumper sticker last night - "I love my rotten ungrateful children." I need to find that and put that on my mother's car.

Had my car fixed yesterday - it is so nice to be able to drive and not hear that loud droning sound. It was a hassle to tell them what I wanted and not get hit with various fees, but I kicked some ass and won! I went all over the place yesterday afternoon, the Christmas card selection this year is horrid. I am still in search of some nice Christmas stickers, need to check the bigger WalMart since Michaels nor AC Moore had anything decent. I was getting irrited by all the little old ladies with big asses just stopping and blocking the aisles.

Lots of lab work this morning, just waiting on a timer . . . then the OP9s better be alive!

Work

One of our patients came in with his family yesterday for his annual exam. The youngest boy in the family comes over to me and hands me this heavy bag. While his mother informs me that it is the fecal sample, he proceeds to tell me that it is "Poop in a Pickle Jar!" It made me laugh, and if I ever decide to write my memoirs, that is so the title!

It has been nonstop death the past few days there. Fun fun.
